Monet's paintings of Etretat
15/09/2017
Interesting article in blog (Artips) about Monet's painting trip to Etretat in the winter of 1883. Monet always tried to paint en plein air, but the weather was too wet and windy for him to do so. However, he had cleverly chosen an hotel that had clear views of the coastline, and so he painted a whole sequence of pictures of the cliffs in perfect comfort. These paved the way for the later series paintings for which Monet has since become so famous.
